Doctrine of the Day (DotD) – So Close, So Far

I got this in my e-mail today.

So, we are saved from the punishment of sin by what Christ has done, not us, not our works. We are saved from all forms of the effects of sin. eg sin caused people to be condemned, we are justified.

We are saved from damnation

We are saved from sickness

We are saved from Torment

We are saved from poverty

We are saved from the system whereby our salvation depended on us, now it is through what Jesus has done.

There is nothing u can do to add to your righteousness, there is nothing you can do to be healed, there is nothing you can do to be blessed. All these things r added unto you, FREELY !!!

It starts off so well, and it ends well, yet somewhere in the middle, we are to claim promises never given, and practice self-deception in the making. We are saved from damnation that is true. Are we saved from sickness? No, oh I wish it were true, but it isn't. We will be sick off and on, and for most of us, sickness will lead to the end of us. Saved from torment? Ask those in North Korea, Saudi Arabia or any other persecuting country how God has saved them from torment? Ask a Rwandan pastor living next to the man who murdered his family, has he been saved from torment? Even for each of us, there are moments of torment, from the world, ourselves, and the Evil One. If Jesus wasn't spared, why should be presume to get off any lighter? Saved from poverty? Is any comment really needed?

And then the letter comes to a wonderful close. Rather than focusing on a doctrine today, I want to pause and consider how carelessly I too let words fly and slip and the foolishness they appear.

Am I being too critical? What do you think about the above?
